Weekly Update 27/08/2010 – Special End week Edition!

Holy balls, it’s been a week since I last updated here! What in the hell have I been doing that could warrant such a long time without posts?

…Vacation, mostly. I got back a day ago so I’m getting back into gaming and whatnot before summer ends. The Vacation was good! My family and I ate lots of tasty but expensive food and rented a boat on Lake Okanogan. It came with a little raft too, so my brothers and I took turns being pulled around the lake by the boat. When I went, we hit this huge oncoming wake and got about a meter of air. Fun stuff!

Over the vacation, I bought a bunch of apps for my iPod touch so I’ll be getting around to reviewing those. I sort of lost my interest in iPhone gaming, but it’s slowly returning. There’s always good stuff to play on that thing.

NOW PLAYING:

City of Heroes: Going Rogue – I recently came to the decision that City of Heroes is probably my favorite MMO. It also happens to be the first MMO I ever played, but at the time my computer was rather shit and couldn’t handle the game at more than 5 FPS. So I merely dabbled in it. Now that I have a pretty gaming-oriented PC though, I play it on and off. Going Rogue, the new expansion had me interested so I finally bought it today. So far, I like it. I will probably do a first impressions post about it when I get about halfway through Praetoria (the new zone).

Honorable Mentions:

  1. Bad Company 2
  2. OpenArena

But, enough about me. Time to move on to things much more exciting…

NEW & COOL STUFF:

Dead Rising 2’s Collector’s Edition is probably the most kickass CE bundle I have seen in gaming history. $89.99 gets you all of this zombie-related goodness:

highstakes

In my opinion, I think this one beats Halo Reach’s Legendary Edition. Sure, it too has a kickass statue but Dead Rising’s comes with a Poker set! Maybe that’s why this bitch is limited edition. EDIT: Oh, with every CE you get a chance to win the statue Zombie Dude. Doesn’t come with one. Ah well. Still, this is perfect for Poker Fanatics. I’m definitely not one of them, but this CE still looks awesome.

SOME COOL VIDEOS BEFORE I GO:

Top 17 most satisfying PC Game weapons of all timePosting this because it’s awesome and the guy who made it doesn’t get the attention he deserves. Check it, much better countdown than anything on IGN or Gamespot.

F*** You SongSeriously good. Just watch it. Better than any other song ever that has the F-Word in it. I guarantee. Plus, there’s a gaming reference in there. Nice!

Weekly Update 09/08/2010

Hello, and welcome back to another enticing episode of Weekly Effin’ Update (only minus the vulgarity). I’m sure you’ve all (and by all I mean the one person who reads this blog) eagerly awaited my return, as I was on a vacation of sorts this past week with an old friend who came over for a visit. We went zip lining, ate sushi and had lots of good fun. It was good he decided to come, as my summer this year has been pretty bland. Good as always, but bland. Next year, though, my family and I will be heading out to New England, much like we do every year or so. Oh! And PAX is coming up, I almost forgot. Can’t forget PAX! Very excited for that.

NOW PLAYING:

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (360) – Future Shop has a nice deal on this game right now where you can grab a new copy for just 40 bucks. While this isn’t a super-saver like the deals Steam offers, it’s still a good 20-30 dollar price drop. I own BC2 on the PC and I did own the 360 version at some point but ended up trading it in soon after release. This was because I had a small-ass 13” CRT TV at the time which made the game almost unplayable… and because I found out my PC could actually run the game just fine, unlike the beta. A stupid assumption on my part, but whatever. I’m happy to own the same game on both consoles, as it’s one of my favorite titles to come out in a while.

This past week I was finishing the campaign. I think I have about two more levels to go (or are they called “acts” now?) but anyway, the campaign kicks ass as does the multiplayer, which is arguably the best part. If you’re still playing MW2 (I can’t even imagine…) or looking for another shooter to play, I can’t recommend Bad Company 2 enough.

NEW & COOL STUFF:

The Call of Duty: Black Ops multiplayer teaser was released today from Treyarch, which briefly shows off some of the new game mechanics it has to offer, such as some sort of camera, a exploding crossbow you’ve likely seen, and a self-detonated RC car. I’m still putting this one on hold, but who knows, it could turn out to be most excellent.

Also! Scott Pilgrim VS The World comes out in theaters this week. What I did read of the comic I seriously enjoyed, so I’ll be seeing it at some point. Make sure you do the same, it’s got video game references and I’ve been hearing good things about it from the lucky people who got into pre-screenings this month.

EPIC DEALS OF THE WEEK:

  • Amazon has Darksiders and Wolfenstein for a mere $20 (US only).
  • Xbox LIVE has the Dragon Age: Awakening DLC for 1600 MS Points among some others, and some new Dragon Age themed avatar items, if you’re into that sort of thing.
  • And of course, as mentioned earlier, Future Shop has Bad Company 2 on sale for 40 bucks new.

And with that, I’m out. Enjoy your week, and happy gaming!

Weekly Update 02/08/2010 (Super Short Edition)

This week I’ve got a friend from the US over for a visit. While one would assume I wouldn’t be gaming much at all this week, it’s kind of the opposite.

Last time he was over, we killed time at the end of each day by logging on to City of Heroes and fooling around with the character creator. Then we’d head into Paragon City to test out our powers and crack some skulls.

So naturally, I resumed my CoH subscription about a day or so before he arrived. During that time I managed to get my Tanker to 20, which means I now have access to a cape on that character. It also means I don’t have to be staring at a dude’s ass in tights whenever I play. Cryptic sure do (did?) know how to promote leveling with such nice rewards.

So yeah, City of Heroes is all we’ve been playing this week. The new expansion, Going Rogue, is also out this month that gives your heroes the ability to go from Hero to Villain and vice-versa through your decisions. It looks pretty sweet, and I’ll be checking it out provided it gets good initial reviews.

Anyway, apologies for such a short post and apologies in advance for probably nothing new this week. Perhaps I will post up pictures of our creations in City of Heroes! That would be fun.

Weekly Update 19/07/2010

weeklyupdate2Another release dry, but still awesome week of summer. I’m waiting on Halo Reach and Cataclysm to hit, and as a result I’ve just been playing old stuff this week.

NOW PLAYING:

  • Fallout 3 (360) – Yup, Fallout 3 got the most time out of me this past week. On my main character I’ve pretty much done all there is to do as far as the main storyline and Broken Steel DLC goes. I have around 5 side quests left to do, but I decided to change things up and make an evil character for those. “Harold” is only level 4, but he’s richer than my good character was at the same level. This is because so many of the quests that I did gave me extra pocket change for simply being myself (and that is, in this case, evil). Apparently in the Capital Wasteland, crime does pay.
  • Blacklight: Tango Down (XBLA) – Still playing it occasionally, but it’s feeling somewhat dull at the moment. Maybe if I stopped playing team deathmatch religiously and tried out a new gametype it would be better. Could be the answer. We shall see.
  • Torchlight – This game deserves more time from me. I installed it just today and ended up spending an hour or so crawling dungeons and smashing things with my axe. It makes me miss Dungeon Runners, which is a good thing because this game is so similar but without the monthly fees. I will definitely be playing this all week, I forgot how kick ass it is.

EPIC DEALS OF THE WEEK:

  • Halo 3’s Legendary and Mythic map packs are dropping in price at the end of the week. 160 Microsoft points gets you the Legendary pack, while the Mythic map pack will run you 400 points. These drops are from what I’ve heard – final.
  • Valve released Alien Swarma free, Left 4 Dead-type shooter in which you and three buddies can tackle levels swarming with things that look like the cousins of Half-Life’s headcrabs.
  • All Assasin’s Creed 2 DLC is on sale this week on Xbox 360. Check here for prices.

What are you playing? Does it suck? Is it a delicious treat everyone should try? Seriously, I wanna know. Leave me a comment!

Weekly Update 05/07/2010

weeklyupdate1

It’s been a long while once again since I’ve updated this thing. But this time, I actually have an excuse. I went camping with my family in Idaho last Thursday and got home just last night. While it was fun, it wasn’t 100% camping, and we only ended up actually “camping” one night out of the three. We left at 5 in the morning and got to the campsite in the afternoon, with enough time to set up and catch up on sleep. Afterwards we had a traditional campsite meal of hot dogs and smores for dessert. That was all good.

That night however, sucked big time to put it gently. A dysfunctional southern family showed up at like 11 with their loud obnoxious kids, their yapping Chihuahua, and their incredibly terrible parenting skills. They made it impossible for us and anyone else at the campsite to get any sort of sleep, and they spent the entire night setting themselves up, swearing loudly, and threatening their dog. That morning when I woke up, I was saddened to find out they hadn’t shut up and were wide awake, maiing just as much noise as they had that night. Apparently I wasn’t the only camper who was pissed – almost all the other campers had left the site that morning. My mom labeled the family "The Flinstones," which while fitting, is put pretty nicely. I would have called them "The Dysfunctional Family of Annoying Fucks with the Chihuahua that never shuts the hell up" myself. But aside from that encounter, the rest of the vacation was good. My brothers bought and blew off all sorts of firecrackers much to their delight. All the eating out was a big treat for me, as I was treated to P.F. Chang’s, numerous diners and a Wendy’s all in less then a week which was awesome. My mom also found my favorite Iced Tea brand, Sweet Leaf at the nearby grocery store. It was a serious favorite of mine when we lived in Austin Texas and I haven’t been able to find it anywhere else. Moving on…

NOW PLAYING:

Gears of War 2

Over vacation I picked up the Gears of War 2 GOTY edition which comes with all the DLC (19 extra maps and a deleted scene from the campaign). It was thirty bucks so a pretty damn good deal if you ask me. I didn’t think much of the extra maps at first since it was the campaign that was on my mind and not the multiplayer, but I’ve been playing a lot more MP then Single player and actually enjoy it a great deal. It’s a nice change in gameplay since generic FPS are the only MP games I’ve been playing for the last few years. There is a bonus EXP week going on too, so I have it pretty good rank-wise. Mmm… octuple experience bonuses (god that sounds weird).

Pokémon SoulSilver

I said this one would keep me busy over the long drive, and it totally did. I put in about 5 hours at least just finishing off the gym leaders/Team Rocket (those asshats!) in Johto, and have yet to move onto the next region even after 20 hours of total playtime. Seriously good stuff here, and the only DS title I will need for a while. I haven’t enjoyed Pokémon this much since I bought Yellow Version for my Game Boy Pocket back in the day.

I also have a few more days remaining on my WoW account, which I probably won’t be renewing. Even though I love the game, I haven’t been playing it a whole lot. Besides, Funcom is offering me ten days of Age of Conan for free to try out the new expansion, which is pretty damn tempting. All I will need to get my MMO fix for the month.

Anyway, school is now over and I have two months of doing nothing at my hands. Blogging will definitely be a priority as will gaming :)
