Review: Pocket God

Pocket God is a sandbox-style game for the iPhone. I had heard a lot of good things about it from many different people, and so I finally decided to download it and give it a try. After all, it’s only a dollar.

Basically, you have a bunch of islanders (referred to as “pygmies” in the game) and you are their god. This means you can pretty do whatever the hell you want with them, like picking them up and throwing them, having lightning strike them, have dinosaurs attack and eat them, and even have birds shit on their unsuspecting faces. It’s all about experimenting.

In fact, this is why I find this game to be a little dull. Sure, there are new levels/play sets being added all the time and the game gets very constant updates, but after you play around with it all which won’t take long at all, you will find that you’ll only really play it here and there.

But, Pocket God is only a dollar and this is what keeps me from giving it a “meh”. When new updates hit you will probably find yourself dusting off the app just to check them out. It’s not really a game you will be playing whenever you get the chance (see Mr. AahH!! for that) but it’s got nice visuals, feels polished and (especially if you like sandbox games) is fun. And you can throw islanders into volcanoes, so why not?

For the price being asked Pocket God is well worth it. Just don’t expect much long-term enjoyment out of it, at least between updates.Get it on the app store here.
